The school’s theme is “In Sync With Nature”, which ties into the school’s close proximity to Toledo Botanical Gardens and the district’s Natural Science Technology Center. Its pillars for education are: stewardship, inclusion, curiosity, perseverance and community.
The school collaborates with a variety of community partners to help its students learn. Architects, engineers, zoologists, business owners, park rangers and other professionals spend time engaging with students.
The committee authorizes the designation of STEM schools based on a competitive proposal process. Hawkins STEMM Academy is now the fourth TPS school to receive Ohio STEM designation, joining Chase STEMM Academy, Marshall STEMM Academy and McKinley STEMM Academy.
