The students have been hard at work in The Big Green Garden at East Broadway Elementary School. Teachers and students spent the summer and fall tending to the garden and harvesting its fruits and vegetables.
The 8th-grade students have used their garden ingredients to cook pesto sauce and spaghetti held a salsa competition, cooked homemade ketchup, vegetable stir fry, zucchini bread, and homemade pizza sauce and pizzas. They’ve also eaten plenty of strawberries, green beans, snap peas, cucumbers, and loads of tomatoes right from the vine. They dug for potatoes and picked pumpkins for our classroom.
The 7th graders investigated the water cycle and evapotranspiration using many of the garden’s leaves.
