The Local History and Genealogy Department on the third floor of the main branch of the Toledo Lucas County Public Library is currently hosting an exhibit called Toledo Public Schools, 1849-1895 in honor of the 175th anniversary of the district.

On display are some of the earliest artifacts from the TPS archives, including the first Board of Education ledger from May 8, 1849.

Rare 1877 class photos from Franklin and Lagrange schools can also be viewed, as can original pictures and pennants of Toledo High School, which opened in 1854.

This display is free and open to the public. It will remain on exhibit through the end of October.
