Tamara Browder

Tamara Browder

Tamara Browder was selected as the 1989 Woodward Homecoming Queen. Instead of being crowned in a dress, Browder accepted her award in her football uniform and cleats since she was the placekicker for the boy’s football team. Woodward football coach, Tom Inman, Jr., recognized her great work ethic and her ability to kick when he saw her booting a soccer ball. Already an outstanding academic student, as well as goalie and captain of the all-male soccer team, Browder was placed by Inman on the football team with the hopes of improving the team’s game. Her slight physique belied the power of her agility and skills.

The unique combination of star athlete and homecoming queen propelled Browder to national fame when she was interviewed by stars such as Joan Rivers and featured in People and Sports magazines.

Browder played professional soccer for Russia, Demark, and Canada for two years after college and currently is the coach for the Midland Soccer Club in Michigan. She married George Hageage in 2000.Tamara Browder Hageage was inducted into the Woodward High School Hall of Fame in 2009 and the City League Hall of Fame in 2013 for excelling in football, soccer, and track and field.
