DeVilbiss High School opened in 1931 and an immediate rivalry developed with Libbey High School. While the first two decades were dominated by Libbey football teams on their Thanksgiving Day matchups, the undefeated 1953 DeVilbiss team finally broke the stretch and remained unbeaten the following two years. The DeVilbiss Tigers were Toledo City League champions from 1953-1955, 1957-1959, and in 1961.
