Congratulations to the Woodward High Band and Orchestra students who participated in late January in the Ohio Music Education Association’s District I High School Solo and Ensemble Competition.
The following students received a Division I (or superior) rating on their solos:
• John Carr – violin
• Harley Carsten – clarinet
• Matt Durbin – snare drum
• Roderick Hale – tenor saxophone
• Meagan Insco – clarinet
• Brandan Insco – trombone
• Nate Ward – baritone saxophone

Jamie Stowe received a Division II (or excellent) rating for her flute solo.

The school’s Drumline, the Polar Bear Regiment, received a Division I rating for a percussion ensemble piece. Members include: Matt Durbin; Justin Palmer; Daniel Ross; Jonathan Chegar and Justin Vardaman. This is particularly impressive because it is believed this is the first time the Woodward Drumline has participated in competition since the 1970s!
Finally, the Woodward String Quartet, consisting of Leo Aguirre; John Carr; Dillon Johnson and Crystina Wheeler received a Division I rating on its performance.
More than 900 students competed in the state competition, held on Jan. 31.
