Thanks to a new recycling initiative, the month of March has been designated in the district as TPS Proud Goes Green Month.
Recycling bins have been delivered to all of the schools -- clearly marked ‘plastic’ and ‘paper’ – as part of a new TPS partnership with the University of Toledo.
There are several components to the specially-designated month. First, volunteers are being sought at each school to recruit a team of students to help with the recycling. Those teams will then be in charge of picking up recycled items from each classroom, placing the items in the recycle bins and then placing the bins outside for pick-up. Those TPS employees interested in serving as adult volunteers should e-mail James Gant, chief business manager.
Second, to make this fun for the students and staff volunteers, the district is holding a GO GREEN art contest. Elementary students and high school students are being asked to submit artwork with a recycling theme - this art will then be used for GREEN TEAM t-shirts. Each member of a school’s team will receive a t-shirt. Deadline for the artwork is Friday, March 6th. Interested students can email their submissions or send them in the interoffice mail to the Communications Office - Room 107 at the Thurgood Marshall administration building.
Finally, students and teachers who are Going Green are being asked in March to submit pictures and write-ups to email@example.com.
