Toledo Technology Academy’s Dale Price reports that Team 279, Tech Fusion is gearing up for the 2015 FIRST Robotics Competition season.
Thirty-two students from the school, along with the team’s mentors, met on Saturday, January 3, at Dana Holding Corp. (the team’s sponsor) to find out this year’s challenge: RECYCLE RUSH, a recycling-themed game designed for the competition.
The game is played by two alliances of three teams each. Alliances compete simultaneously to score points by stacking totes on scoring platforms, capping those stacks with recycling containers and properly disposing of litter (represented by pool noodles) in designated locations. In keeping with the recycling theme of the game, all scoring elements used are reusable or recyclable by teams in their home locations or by FIRST at the end of the season.
Team 279 started working on Monday, January 5, and will work from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays – and then add days and hours as they get closer to the deadline.
Everything has to be completed by February 16, Mr. Price said.
The team is going to the Wisconsin Regional in Milwaukee from March 18-21 and then to the Smoky Mountains Regional in Knoxville from April 1-4.
Mr. Price says, “Our fingers are crossed for the FIRST World Championships in St. Louis, April 23-26.”
