Toledo Police officers are going back to school.

Officers will periodically have lunch at Toledo Public Schools elementary school as part of the Blue Lunch Special outreach program that started the week of February 8.

This new initiative is intended to create positive relationships between younger students and officers who work in or patrol their neighborhoods. The School Resource Officers from the high schools were the first to visit the elementary schools within their learning community during lunch on Wednesday, February 10.

Also visiting Hawkins Elementary that day was Toledo Police Chief George Kral, who the students declared was nicer than they were expecting.

The ultimate goal of the department is to expand the Blue Lunch Special initiative to other day-side crews who can feel free to visit any TPS elementary school during lunchtimes.
