During a recent breakfast to commemorate the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr., a Scott High senior was awarded a $2,000 scholarship.
Charlvon Gaston, 17, was one of four recipients of scholarships awarded by the men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Xi Lambda chapter.
Charlvon says he has yet to choose a college, but does know he would like to pursue a career in computer science engineering.
He is the president of Scott's student body and the school's chapter of Young Men Of Excellence (YMOE). Charlvon was also the starting quarterback for the varsity football team and will be the starting pitcher for Scott's varsity baseball team. He is also a part of the ASCEND youth group of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Teen Pep.
Charlvon was also named the BCSN Student of the Month for January. Each school year, BCSN honors eight students in the Buckeye CableSystem viewing area as the BCSN Student of the Month. In May, each of the monthly winners receive a one-time scholarship of $1,000 (Student of the Year not included) and the selected Student of the Year receives a $10,000 scholarship ($2,500 per year, renewable for four years).
