The free classes that will be offered throughout the school year by the new Parent University (a partnership between Toledo Public Schools and Partners In Education)  are set to begin.

The first event will be held on Wednesday, September 23, and is called Parent Idea Sharing. It will be presented by the Parent University Advisory Board and is designed to be 'a casual evening of discussion to ask each other questions anonymously through support, advice, and “oh honey, I’ve been there!” moments.' This parent-to-parent sharing night will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. at Plate 21 Coffee House, 3664 Rugby. (There's parking in the front and back).

The second event is a Parent Leadership and Involvement Panel presented by Toledo parent leaders on Monday, September 28. This panel will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Beverly Elementary, 3548 S. Detroit. The description for the night reads, "Have you ever disagreed with a policy or decision that affects your child’s education? Parents are the experts in the school district on their children. Hear from parent leaders at different levels about how you can make a difference in your child’s school system.'

Other topics to be explored this school year include: Healthy Cooking, Standardized Testing and Preparing for College and Career. Childcare and transportation will always be provided for these 1 to 2 hour classes held across Toledo.

As parents and guardians explore the class offerings, they should know that these classes are not meant to teach them how to parent, but rather, to support and celebrate the incredible job they are doing raising their children. They can choose to attend some or all of the many classes or they may even enroll in a series of classes.
