Ashley Gawle, a 2011 graduate of Woodward High School, has been accepted into The United States Marine Corps Band.
She plays clarinet and is currently first chair at the University of Toledo. Ashley was also a member of the Toledo Youth Orchestra and a two-year member of the All-Ohio State Fair Band.
"I am so proud of Ashley and her accomplishments! She was a vital part of my original 10 when I took over as the band director at Calvin M. Woodward High School," said Dennis M. Oehlers.
Ashley's appointment was icing on the cake for Mr. Oehlers, who retired at the end of the school year after a 36-year career with Toledo Public Schools. He started as the leader of the Woodward band in 2006.
'The President’s Own' United States Marine Band’s mission is to perform for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps.
Founded in 1798 by an Act of Congress, the Marine Band is America’s oldest continuously active professional musical organization. Today, 'The President’s Own' is celebrated for its role at the White House and its more than 500 dynamic public performances a year.
Congratulations Ashley and good luck. And enjoy your retirement, Mr. Oehlers! #tpsproud
