The T-Rockets basketball team, made up of Toledo Public Schools students, recently won the Division II basketball tournament in the state's Special Olympics tournament.

The win is a TPS Proud moment for the district and it seems like a perfect time to remind everyone that the TPS Special Olympics aren't that far away.

This year, athletes from the Start, Waite and Woodward feeder schools will compete at Start High School, 2010 Tremainsville Rd., on Friday, May 15. And the athletes from the Bowsher, Rogers and Scott feeder schools will compete the following Friday, May 22, at Rogers, 222 McTigue Dr. A rain day is scheduled for May 29.

Last year's competition, the first for TPS, proved to be a life changing experience for athletes and volunteers.

Now is the time to get students registered and qualified to compete. Athletes hoping to compete must have an up-to-date sports physical on file. Click here to learn about clinics that will help provide such physicals for TPS students.

"We are looking forward to all our qualifying students to be participants," said Beth Barrow, director of student services. "This is a very special opportunity and experience for our most deserving athletes."

Ms. Barrow suggests that teachers and families with questions - or in need of registration forms -- should contact Sue Hess at shess@tps.org.
